PROPOSED AMENDMENT IN THE CONSTITUTIONAL AND BY-LAWS
OF THE CATHOLIC FAITH DEFENDERS
BILL OF RIGHTS
Section 1. Right to Religious
Freedom. Every member of the apostolate shall have the right to freely and
fully practice their Catholic faith. This includes the right to participate in
sacraments, religious rites, devotions, and community activities. Members shall
have the liberty to worship, express their beliefs, and engage in spiritual
practices consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church and the mission
of the organization, without fear of persecution or discrimination.
Section 2. Right to Equality and
Non-Discrimination. All members are guaranteed equal treatment and protection
from discrimination, irrespective of gender, race, nationality, age,
disability, or socio-economic status. The organization shall create an
inclusive environment that respects and values diversity, ensuring that
everyone has fair opportunities to contribute to and participate in all aspects
of the organization, free from exclusion or bias.
Section 3. Right to Fair
Representation and Democratic Participation. Members shall have the right to
fair representation in the apostolate’s decision-making processes. This
includes the right to vote, stand for office, and actively engage in the
governance of the Catholic Faith Defenders. Members shall also have the right
to be involved in amending or revising the organization’s constitution,
by-laws, policies, and other purposes ensuring their voices are heard and considered
in shaping the direction of the apostolate, without interference or
manipulation.
Section 4. Right to Appeal and
Grievance Redressal. Members have the right to appeal decisions and address
grievances through fair and transparent procedures. The apostolate shall handle
all complaints, disputes, and disciplinary actions with integrity, providing
members with a chance to be heard and respectfully seek justice, without
prejudice or retaliation.
Section 5. Right to Privacy and
Confidentiality. Members shall have the right to privacy in their personal
lives and within their involvement in the apostolate. Personal information
and communications shall be protected and disclosed only with the member’s
consent, except when legally required or for legitimate apostolate purposes as
outlined in the by-laws, without unauthorized disclosure.
Section 6. Right to Access
Information and Transparency. Members
shall have the right to access information regarding the organization’s
policies, decisions, activities, and financial status. The organization shall
maintain transparency, providing clear, accurate, and timely information
through accessible channels, including the right to review meeting minutes,
financial reports, and relevant documents without unnecessary delay.
Section 7. Right to Support and
Fair Financial Practices. Members are entitled to the support and resources
necessary for their roles within the organization. This includes access to
training, materials, and guidance. No member shall face penalties or be obligated
to pay such amount for financial incapacity and their capabilities; fair
financial practices shall be maintained, and alternative means of participation
shall be provided without undue burden.
Section 8. Right to Security of
Tenure and Protection from Unjust Dismissal. Members shall enjoy security of
tenure within the organization. No member shall be unjustly removed from their
position or expelled without due process and adherence to established
procedures. The organization shall safeguard members from arbitrary or discriminatory
actions that threaten their role or membership.
Section 9. Right to Health,
Well-being, and Safe Environment. Members have the right to a safe and
supportive environment that promotes their physical, mental, and spiritual
well-being. The apostolate shall take measures to protect members from harm,
harassment, and unsafe practices, and provide access to resources supporting
their health and safety.
Section 10. Right to
Non-Interference in Personal Matters. The apostolate shall respect the personal
autonomy of its members and shall not interfere in personal matters unrelated
to their participation in the organization. Members are expected to uphold
integrity, with any breaches addressed through appropriate channels, without
encroaching upon personal domains.
Section 11. Right to Recognition
and Ethical Leadership. Members have the right to be recognized and appreciated
for their contributions. The organization shall establish mechanisms to
acknowledge and celebrate members’ efforts and achievements. Both leaders and
members are expected to exemplify ethical behavior and uphold the
organization’s values, without favoritism or unethical practices.
Section 12. Right to Spiritual
Growth and Personal Development. Members are entitled to opportunities for
spiritual growth and personal development. The organization shall provide
support and resources to help members deepen their faith, enhance their skills,
and actively contribute to the mission of the Catholic Faith Defenders and the
broader Catholic community.
Section 13. Right to Cultural and
Community Inclusivity. Members shall have the right to participate in
activities that reflect their cultural, social, and community backgrounds, as
long as they align with the principles and mission and the Church. The
organization shall promote inclusivity by respecting and celebrating diverse
traditions, and fostering unity and belonging within the community.
Section 14. Right to Social Justice
and Community Outreach. Members have the right to engage in and lead social
justice and community outreach initiatives aligned with the apostolate values
and also to the Church. The Catholic Faith Defenders shall support and
encourage efforts to promote the common good, advocate for justice, and serve
those in need within and beyond their communities.
Section 15. Right to Transparent Communication
and Open Dialogue. Members have the right to transparent communication and open
dialogue within the organization. The organization shall ensure that members
are informed about significant decisions, policies, and changes. Members are
encouraged to participate in constructive dialogue and contribute to the
development of the organization, free from censorship or suppression.
Section 16. Right to Sustainable
Development and Environmental Stewardship Members have the right to contribute
to and benefit from sustainable development and environmental stewardship
initiatives undertaken by the organization. The Catholic Faith Defenders shall
promote practices that protect the environment and support long-term ecological
balance, encouraging members to participate in efforts that safeguard the
planet for future generations, without compromising their rights or well-being.
Section 17. Right to Educational
and Formation Opportunities. Members shall have the right to access educational
and formation opportunities that enhance their knowledge, skills, and spiritual
growth. The apostolate shall provide resources and programs that support
continuous learning and personal development, ensuring that all members have
the chance to improve their capabilities and fulfill their roles effectively.
Section 18. Right to Participation
in Decision-Making Processes. Members have the right to be actively involved in
decision-making processes affecting the organization. This includes having a
voice in discussions and decisions that impact the direction and policies of
the Catholic Faith Defenders. Members are encouraged to contribute their
perspectives and insights, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Section 19. Right to Respectful and
Dignified Treatment. Every member is entitled to be treated with respect and
dignity by fellow members, leaders, and staff. The organization shall uphold
standards of respectful behavior and ensure that all interactions are conducted
in a manner that honors the inherent dignity of each individual, free from
harassment, disrespect, or abuse.
Section 20. Right to Support for
Personal and Family Life. Members have the right to support that accommodates
their personal and family responsibilities. The Catholic Faith Defenders shall
provide flexibility and understanding to members balancing their roles within
the organization with their personal and family commitments, ensuring that they
can contribute effectively without undue stress or conflict.
Section 21. Right to Effective
Communication and Feedback Mechanisms. Members shall have the right to
effective communication and feedback mechanisms within the organization. The
Catholic Faith Defenders shall establish channels through which members can
express their opinions, provide feedback, and raise concerns. The organization
shall address feedback constructively and promptly to improve processes and
outcomes.
Section 22. Right to Ethical Use of
Resources and Assets. Members have the right to ensure that the organization’s
resources and assets are used ethically and responsibly. The Catholic Faith
Defenders shall implement policies and practices that promote transparency and
accountability in the management of resources, safeguarding them from misuse or
misappropriation.
Section 23. Right to Foster
Community and Solidarity. Members shall have the right to foster a sense of
community and solidarity within the organization. The Catholic Faith Defenders
shall promote activities and initiatives that strengthen relationships among
members, encourage mutual support, and build a cohesive and collaborative
community.
Section 24. Right to Support for
Mental and Emotional Health. Members have the right to access support for
mental and emotional health. The apostolate shall provide resources and
programs that address mental health needs and promote emotional well-being,
ensuring that members receive appropriate support and guidance when facing
challenges.
Section 25. Right to Cultural and
Artistic Expression. Members shall have the right to engage in cultural and
artistic expression that reflects their individual and collective identities.
The Catholic Faith Defenders shall encourage and support cultural and artistic
activities that enhance the vibrancy and creativity of the organization,
enriching the spiritual and cultural life of its members.
Section 26. Right to Legacy and
Historical Preservation. Members have the right to contribute to and benefit
from the preservation of the apostolate’s legacy and history. The Catholic
Faith Defenders shall maintain and honor its historical records and
achievements, ensuring that the contributions of past and present members are
acknowledged and celebrated, fostering a sense of continuity and heritage.
Section 27. Right to Access to
Legal and Advocacy Support. Members shall have the right to access legal and
advocacy support when needed. The apostolate shall provide assistance and
resources for members facing legal challenges or seeking to advocate for their
rights within and outside the apostolate, ensuring that they are supported in
their pursuit of justice and fairness.
Section 28. Right to Safe and
Supportive Digital Spaces. Members have the right to safe and supportive
digital spaces for communication and interaction. The apostolate shall ensure
that online platforms and communications are secure and respectful, protecting
members from cyberbullying, harassment, and other online threats.
Section 29. Right to Collaboration
and Partnership Opportunities. Members shall have the right to engage in
collaboration and partnerships that advance the mission of the apostolate and
Christ and his Church. The apostolate shall support and facilitate
opportunities for members to work together with external partners, fostering
alliances that enhance the impact and reach of its apostolic initiatives.
Section 30. Right to Accountability
and Ethical Conduct. Members have the right to hold the organization and its
leaders accountable for their actions. The apostolate shall adhere to high
standards of ethical conduct, and members shall have mechanisms to report and
address any breaches of ethics or accountability, ensuring that the
organization operates with integrity and responsibility.
